He was well known as a benefactor of the arts, particularly in Birmingham where he was the Mayor and he was known to have sat for a bust portrait by Jacob Epstein as well as Gerald Leslie Brockhurst (see sale; Bonhams, London, 23 June 2015, lot 111).
