Description: HARA ZAIMEI(1778 – 1844). Ink, colour and gofun on silk, depicting a panoramic view of mountains around Kyoto with numerous temples, shrines, villages, and fields with glimpses of tiny figures, the location’s names in gold ink,mounted as a handscroll, signed Zaimei Shasho, with two seals, Shitoku and Zaimei, 33 x 788cm. 絵巻物 京都近郊山図 銘 在明 Hara school founded by Hara Zaichu (1750 – 1837) thrived under the patronage of numerous temples and the imperial palace in Kyoto, but their paintings are rare to the public. Zaimei was the second son of Zaichu, and under his directorship, the school became the official atelier attached to the Kasuga shrine in Nara. Notes: Asian Art
