|Accompanied by a SSEF report stating that the natural spinel has no indications of heat treatment and originates from Burma (Myanmar). Alongside Mogok's more famous ruby yields, spinels come in numerous colours and hues from colourless to black. Red spinels are among the most prized due in no small part to their close resemblance to rubies. For centuries, spinels were confused with and indeed called rubies: the 170ct "Black Prince Ruby" and the 352ct "Timur Ruby" - both in the British Crown Jewels and both from Tajikistan – are in fact spinels.
