The large trees on the right take the full blow of the rough wind and the birds in the sky seem to be gliding on the strong streams of air. The long grass and plants along the water also indicate the force and direction of the wind. There are several resting figures on the dike bathing in the sun. All these elements contribute to the perfect atmospheric mood of a windy summer day in the Dutch polders.
