|The first seventeen volumes, devoted to mammals, of the Dutch quarto edition of Buffon's Natural History published by Schneider in Amsterdam. There followed a long delay before the final volume on mammals published in Dordrecht in 1793, the remainder of the set not appearing until between 1801 and 1807. The plates for the most part depict the animals placed in landscape settings or, in the case of plates of skeletons, mounted on pedestals.Provenance: Scholten Pistorius, bookplate.
