Who was Julien Gustave Gagliardini?:Julien Gustave Gagliardini (pseudonym Julien Gustave Gaillardin) was born in Mulhouse and was a student of the history painter Claude Soulary and then of Léon Cogniet at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He was first specialized in figurative painting. In 1869, he debuted with portraits and genre scenes at the Paris Salon. Since the 1880s, he devoted himself increasingly to landscape painting. The French state acquired several paintings by Gagliardini, and he was awarded medals at the world exhibitions of 1889 and 1900. Works by Gagliardini are in the collections of the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Marseille, and the Museum d’Art André Malraux in Le Havre.
